About Iheya
Iheya Jima is Okinawa's northernmost  inhabited island. Located 41km off the Motobu peninsula. It consists of two islands, Iheya and Noho islands, which are bridged by the Noho Ohashi. Iheya Jima is a narrow island with a land area of 21,65km2. The 80 minute ferry ride from Unten port takes you to the Maedomari port in Iheya village.

7 tips to enjoy Iheya Jima

1. Friendly greetings is key
Quick yet fun way to befriend with local people is to offer friendly hellos.

2. Always be considerate of local hamlet.
A hamlet is the place where the local people live their lives.
Please refrain from stepping inside private property or taking pictures without permission.

3. Respect local sanctuary "haijo"
In local belief, “Kami” or “God”dwells in a “haijo”, which local people have taken great care of for generations. When you stop by, always remember to act with civility and humble manners.

4. Keep from disturbing the rich flora and fauna.
On this island, you can spot so many rare flora and fauna. Do not touch or take anything off the island.

5. Preserving the beautiful island 
Beautiful scenery and lush nature are everyone's treasures.

6. The early bird gets the worm.
The sound of birds tweeting and insects buzzing. Beautiful sunrise at the sea shore. Let's not miss out on all the beauty by being a sleepyhead.

7. Be an explorer. Go find the "treasures" of the island.
There are many spots that this guide book couldn't cover.

Watch out for Habu snakes!
Habu snakes are active at night, thus they are hidden in holes on stone walls during the daytime. In case when you get bitten by a habu, call for help and go to a hospital immediately.
