The ruins of Mihara Castle
Location: Yakatamachi and Honmachi and Shiromachi in Mihara City
11thDecember ,1957
Mihara Castle was constructed in 1567 by Kobayakawa Takakage, who was a samurai retainer of Toyotomi Hideyoshi during Japan's Sengoku period. The castle was constructed on the coast, and connected to two small islands. The castle was an admirable castle which had a function of a naval port. At full tide,it seemed to be floating in the sea, thus the people named it “Ukishiro(floating castle)” as well.
In 1894,a part of the castle have been demolished when Mihara Train Station was built, and now it remains only half of the ruins due to a further demolishment for shinkansen station expansion.
The ruins, surrounded by a moat, are preserved as a park, and you can access to their top to catch a good view of Mihara City.
