Makimuku Tamaki Palace
Makimuku Tamaki Palace is considered to be the place where Emperor Suinin, the 11th emperor, carried out his imperial duties.
According to the Kiki, Nomi no Sukune and Taima no Kehaya wrestled for the first time in front of Emperor Suinin.
This story is known as the beginning of sumo wrestling, and it is said to have taken place at Sumo Shrine, to the east from here.
Emperor Suinin was trying to change the practice of human sacrifices at funerals, and Nomi no Sukune, a man from Izumo, is recognized as the one who advised the Emperor to make haniwa clay figures in place of human sacrifices.
