Kairakuen and Kōdōkan researched and studied all different kinds of plum trees. Out of all those, the best plum trees in terms of flower shape, scent and color among other factors, "Shironaniwa", "Rekkoubai", "Kounanshomu", "Yanagawashidare", "Toranoo", and "Tsukikage (moon shadow)" were selected for their exceptional excellence and in 1934 became "The Six Trees of Mito". You can enjoy each of "The Six Trees of Mito" at Kairakuen and Kōdōkan.
