According to the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki (collectively known as the Kiki), there was a deadly plague that swept through the land during Emperor Sujin’s reign.
Receiving a divine message about what the great god Ōmononushi, the god of Mount Miwa, had done, the Emperor followed the god’s orders, and searched for the god’s descendant, Ōtataneko. Once found, the Emperor entrusted him to pray to the great god Ōmononushi, and it is said that this cured the land of the evil plague.
Aiming for peace in the land, the Emperor also the dispatched shogun to Tokai, Hokuriku, Saigoku, Tamba, and other regions, wisely ruling over the people. For this, he is honored as the first emperor to rule all of Japan
